Dionysos is the limbic, chaotic and dark part of the human psyche. He (she?) represents the emotions and the physical, visceral aspects of the human existense. Dionysos is of the body. Dionysos would eat, drink and be merry rather than anything else. The Dionysian is often misunderstood or neglected. "Betazoid with a dash of Klingon."
Apollon is the rational, composed and cerebral counter-part to Dionysos. Apollon is in the cortical regions of the brain, and he represents the academic and civilized aspects of human existence. Apollon is of the mind. Apollon would prefer order, reading a good book and philosophize about existence. "Vulcan."
Yet Apollon and Dionysos are not opposable forces, nor are they enemies. Rather, Dionysos is the foundation whereupon Apollon builds. To be a complete human being one must first be able to experience emotions and our bodies, next we better use our brains and behave intelligently and with foresight. "Human."
